How to deal with a breakup?

My boyfriend and I were together for 3 years and we just broke up a few days ago. Now that he is gone I have so many emotions and I have no idea what to do to cope with it all.


What are some normal emotions/symptoms after a breakup?


How do you cope with the loss?


What kinds of things do people do to occupy their time?

First off, I am sorry this happened. Break ups are really really tough. Second, you have to let the emotions flow for a bit. Don't censor them, feel what you feel for a few days, even a couple weeks if you need them. I am a big fan of a bottle of wine (or a tub of ben and jerrys) and listening to our favorite songs to just think about everything. Then start focusing on you. Yoga and pilates are nice to relieve the stress. Start going out with your girlfriends more, even when you don't want to. Play online more. Volunteer your time with an organization. Do stuff! Anything that will take up your time. The time question is different for everyone. Depending on what happened, it could be a couple months, to a couple years, but as long as you keep busy and surround yourself with good people you will be okay. Good luck!!
