Has your therapist said WHY he/she thinks you should continue therapy? If not, find that out.
You needn't see yourself as ';damaged'; just because you're in therapy. Lots of people go for various reasons. I've been there myself. There are lots more people who I WISH would seek therapy but don't:)
The bottom line is, if you don't want to go, don't. Therapy only works if you're a willing participant. A therapist can tell you what's wrong with you and how you can change your behavior to fix the problem, but he/she can't MAKE you better. That's up to you.Anyone find therapy not helpful?
yes, i had a similar experience...
it really is about finding a therapist who will be a good fit for you. sometimes the second or even third option will be the best therapist for you.
Thank you for your puzzle.
It is not!
You are on the road to happiness!
My story is short.
I was terribly abused as a child and I could not accept it.
When finally realized that i had to accept life on life's terms
( sometimes it takes along time) my whole existence changes. Good or bad, work it. Just work it.
Some therapists are far better than others, but you have the choice to go or not to. Sounds like this one is the right one for you and you are probably ok not going for therapy if you aren't getting any benefit from it.
Definitely! If you and your therapist are just not connecting or relating and your not getting any help from him or her it's time for a change! Why waste your time and money if your not getting anything out of it? It makes no sense at all. The one that my friend had, well she asked me to go with her because she wasn't sure if she should change either so she wanted my opinion. I went and almost fell asleep! It was like pulling teeth to get a question out of this therapist and the words were so clinical my friend was embarrassed to ask for the definition! I knew this and ask all kinds of questions so that my friend would understand the session after which we kindly fired the therapist! You have to question them before you hire them did you know that? Ask them if you can go in for a consultation before you lay money down so you can see how you feel about them. Try again and hope you have better luck.
yes i had a similar experience.
i spent 4 months spilling my guts out to this lady after my brother died. she never said what she thought, ever, until one day she said,
i think you hate your mother.
??? wwwway out in left field ya know? so i never went back.
i think you just have to find one that makes you feel comfortable though. later on in life, i spent a good deal of time with a counselor who was very good at listening and empathizing and gave great advice which i took and it helped.
Yes, it's hard finding the right therapist sometimes.
But therapists are human too. Don't expect them to fix everything with a magic wand. That's a big misconception that people have about therapists. They're there to help empower yourself to find the right ways to deal with your situation, and therapy takes time. Maybe you should tell your therapist how you feel, so maybe she can alter her approach to you.
